Mia Watts totally surprised me! What are your experiences with authors?

The most amazing thing happened to me Tuesday morning! When I opened my mailbox I found an email from author Mia Watts. Attached was her latest novel and a message that said: “couldn't resist. :) Enjoy Faery Surprising... on me.”

Monday I'd joined the contest for this book on Chris’ blog by leaving a comment, but no winner was announced yet, so I was a bit confused and I mailed Ms. Watts.

In another email she let me know that she’d sent it to me because: ” You hit a soft spot with me in the "I just discovered Mia Watts" bit. LOL. Made me grin so I went over to your site and loved it. :) I think I'm going to be over there drooling quite a bit.”

Can you image how wonderful that felt? Isn’t she the sweetest, giving me an ebook because of that? I’m looking forward to reading it, the opening was hilarious…

So far, I’ve only met really nice authors and all my experiences are very positive. Some of them leave kind comments on my blog or drop polite emails in my inbox.

How is that for you? Have you ever experienced something like the above or something similar? Or do you have other, more negative experiences?

Back Blurb Faery Surprising:
Book Two in the Faerily Imperfect Series

Flora Harper isn't amused when her faery "gift" transports her in the middle of a self-induced orgasm to a professional football locker room after practice. The fact that it's the team she works for, and their new quarterback, Ian Tate, wants to finish what she's started, flies in the face of the non-fraternization policy.
Ian has been traded to a rival city so he catch a blackmailer red-handed. Time is against him, as are the number of injuries he's had in his career. It sounds like a great deal, except filming the Public Relations specialist in a sexually compromising position leaves a sour taste in his mouth. When he discovers that the PR person is emotionally distant, hard-on inducing Flora, getting a whole lot closer to her feels so incredibly right… until she finds out why he's really on the team.

  1. Mia Watts sounds like a very nice person! I've just picked up two of her books, and I'm looking forward to reading them.

Shawn Lane is a sweetheart like that. She saw where I mentioned that it was my birthday on my blog, and she sent me her latest release! I was so excited, and I loved it! Actions like that go above and beyond what I expect from authors.

Every few months I see a blog post about authors behaving badly, isn't it awesome to see that there are authors like Mia and Shawn who are talents and nice?!?!

  2. Aw, Mia. :)

My interactions have mostly been positive. However, I have had a few snarky comments or emails when I have been less than excited about a particular book. But the positives FAR, FAR outweigh the negatives.

  3. Hi :)
Mia sounds like a lovely person as well as a talented writer.
I haven't had any bad experiences with writers except for one. Most are full of awesome.
    :)
    Merry Christmas!

  4. Mia sounds wonderful, and always when I hear wonderful things about authors I put that somewhere at the back of my head with a sticky note to read them :)

Yes I have been lucky and nice authors have commented or sent me more to read. And I have just loved them more.

I wouldn't mind an author coming over and saying too bad you didn't like it, but thanks for trying.

But an author coming over and yelling at me would so put me off for life and I would not go near any of those books (and I might tell others)

  5. LOL I've had soooo much trouble this morning trying to comment (think my link with google was a bit dodgy so here goes 10th time (at least hahahah) lucky:)

So, Mia sounds like a real sweetie, I love it when authors respond to comments I've made about their books or stories. All the feed back I've had has been positive so it makes my reading seem all the more worth the effort, and as blodeuedd says I love them even more.

  6. Awww, that is awesome!!! I love it when authors do that. Makes me feel like they do care about us as readers. I mean, I know they do care, but really care. I have had nothing but positive feed back with any author I have come to "meet." Even when my review was not the best. But the experiences make me feel like reading their books, any books really, worth while. I think that is great!!!
Ms. Jenna did that for me when I read her book. Totally flipped my twinkie!!!!
I wish you a very special, blesses and Merry Christmas honey!

  7. @Eyre: That's so nice of Shawn! I recently picked up some of Mia's books too: Bad Boys, Bad Boys and Mind F*cked. Hope you enjoy her stories too!

@Chris: I'm glad I never got the snarky comments so far! Good thing though that the positive reactions you've got outweighed the negatives :)

  8. @RKCharron: Hey there! Welcome at my place, good to see you here! Just dropped by at your blog and became a follower :) I'll be back later!
Yeah, Mia truly seems lovely, doesn't she!
Merry Christmas to you too! :D

@Blodeuedd: I know what you mean. I guess I make a little note and file it away in the back of my head too. It makes you notice new releases by that author sooner :) But of course, when writing a review I try to separate personal sympathies from my opinion of the writing ;)
Great that you had those positive experiences with authors, hon! :D

    ReplyDelete
  9. @Adrienne: Yeah, I agree with you that it's really nice when authors leave a comment. It's special to see they're interested in what you have to say :)

@Cecile: Well said: 'really care'! That's exactly it :) Jenna Byrnes is special like that, yes! She also left a comment the other day at my review of her book saying she would think about what I said when writing her next story! :)
I wish you a Merry Christmas too, hon! :D

  10. First of all I am loving your new header and avi! Verra nice *grin* And Mia Watts and her Faery sounds great, I have her e-book with F*cked in the title. Now I have to buy another one *oh the hardship :)*

I love it when authors surprise you like that and many are so open and welcome to readers :) Enjoy Mia's pressie, what a way to celebrate Xmas. Have a wonderful and blessed Xmas Janna!

  11. Thanks Leontine! I'm pretty happy with the new looks myself ;)
I have the Mind F*cked book on my shelves too. Intriguing title, don't you think? Maybe we can read it together?
And yeah, I love that kind of attention from authors too. I'm receiving more and more nice responses and surprises like that and it's special each time!
Have a wonderful Christmas too, sweetie!

  14. OMG! Once again, you've totally made my day. Though, I'm supposed to be all snarky and tough sounding so this blows my cover but I'm thinking it's a good thing. ;)

Imagine, I'm doing my usual weekly check of all things google to see what reviews I missed and I come upon this love-fest. Best. Christmas present. EVER.

    Just sayin'.

Most authors are overjoyed to know you like their work. We love to write but readers like you make it true bliss.

Thank you Janna and than you everyone!! Happy New Year!

    ReplyDelete
  15. Honey, you're preachin' to the choir! I adore Mia Watts and I've blogged about her a lot! She writes lovely erotic prose.

  16. Responsive readers are the greatest thing in the world. I'm going to post the link to this blog on some of my author loops and see if we can drum up some freebies for you. ;)

    ReplyDelete
  17. Heeeeeey, love your blog. First time I've been over here. Mia is a good friend of mine and yes, she is super duper nice. It's been my experience that MOST writers are that way. Nice, warm hearted and TONS OF FUN. I write for EC and attended Romanticon in October. Readers and authors mingled like old friends, had dinner and drinks together, that kind of thing. Everyone was generous and supportive.

Hell, it's so much easier to be nice than to be a hateful you-know-what, I think. As to reviews? One persons opinion. We aren't going to please everyone and that's just a fact of life. Personally, I appreciate the time the reviewer takes to read and write the review.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Wow, I'm going to have to bookmark your blog. I love the look of it!

Mia is great. I love her stuff! So funny and hot at the same time. :)

    ReplyDelete
  19. *sigh*

I SWEAR I'm not paying them to say that stuff. Rita's right though, most authors are eager to please and very supportive of one another.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Awe, that's so sweet of Mia!

I've found many new-to-me authors through blogs and chats, and have had some great conversations when I e-mailed the author to let them know how much I enjoyed their work.

Cassidy McKay is really sweet, too, as well as CJ England.

It's great to find out about your blog, I'm looking forward to finding more wonderful authors to read.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Mia is one of the sweetest folks you could ever hope to know! Regina, too! LOL! I am proud to count them among my dearest friends. We all write for Ellora's Cave and Resplendence. These are some of the best authors I have ever read.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Oh! You too, Julia! Julia writes hot romance, as well! She had a hottie coming out in January over at Siren.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Mia, sweetie, your cover was blown a long time ago! We all know you're a softie at heart. Janna, this is a great blog! I'm glad Mia sent me over here! And you're right about reviews. It can be hard, as an author, to read that someone didn't like our books, but we should never get nasty about it. Every reader is entitled to an opinion. Thanks for your support of hot romance!

    ReplyDelete
  24. Ah, I love Mia! She really is one of the sweetest writers and people that I know. I read one of her books and I was hooked...she's an auto buy for me whenever she has a release out!

Janna- I found your blog via Mia and I have to say that I love, love it! I have it bookmarked and will be visiting here quite frequently. Thanks for such a great blog!

    ReplyDelete
  25. OMG Mia! I'm totally blown away! You're truly amazing, look at all the love you sent my way! :)
And all the nice words everyone said about you... I can only believe they are true :) You rock!! Thanks so much
    (((big hug)))

    ReplyDelete
  26. @Julia Barrett: I can see why you adore her! She rocks!! I'm gonna check out your blogs/site and work too :) Thanks for visiting my place!

    ReplyDelete
  27. Hello, Janna! Mia mentioned you so thought I would check you out. Your blog is delightful and of course, you're primo in my book because you like her books.

Wishing you a most lovely New Year!

    ReplyDelete
  28. @Regina Carlysle: Thanks so much, feel welcome! I couldn't agree with you more - you sure are warm hearted and tons of fun :)
EC is one of my fav publishers, you're one of the Tempt the Cougar writers, aren't you?
Of course a review is just one person's opinion and not everyone likes the same books... that's a good thing... I personally just love to read and be swept away by a story and I always appreciate an author's effort! When a story didn't work for me, I try to explain why - most of the times it's related to something personal...
    Thanks for stopping by!! :)

    ReplyDelete
  29. @Jambrea: I heart being bookmarked!
Your visit reminds me that I still have to get my hands on your Magnus ;)! He slipped me mind since I did a post on him a few weeks ago in which I told my blogfriends that he'd touched my soft soft *sigh*
    Thanks for stopping by!

    ReplyDelete
  30. @Twinkletoes: Welcome at my place as well, hon! Good to hear you've had such wonderful experiences with authors! I'm overwhelmed by all the positiveness and love! Hope to see ya around here again :)

    ReplyDelete
  31. @Fran Lee: You can be sure that I'll be checking out all of your work and blogs! It's so great that you all are friends, I'm jealous ;)
You too thanks for stopping by!!

    ReplyDelete
  32. @Cindy Spencer Pape: LOL! I never believed any of the snarky and tough part that Mia tried to pull off either :)
Thanks, nice of you to stop by!
And about the reviews, like I said, I always try to explain why I don't like a book, but honestly there's most of the times a lot to like!

'Thanks for your support of hot romance!'
I better thank you all for writing it!! :D

    ReplyDelete
  33. @Danielle: That's great, couldn't agree with you more! I myself only recently discovered Mia's work, but she's def an auto buy for me too!
I'm Mia so thankful for sending you over here! Feel welcome and I'm looking forward to seeing a lot more of you :) Thanks!!

    ReplyDelete
  34. @Anny Cook: I wanna kiss Mia for sending you my way :) Thanks so much for stopping by and for thinking my blog's delightful! I hope to see you here more often.
I'm gonna check out your blogs and work too, because it's always great to discover a new author :)

    !SWAK!

Pretty soon we'll all join hands and sing Kumbaya around the mutual love-fest campfire.

    Dontcha just love it.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Hey...I'm ready for a big chorus of kumbaya! Really. Any time. snicker.

Yes, I AM one of the Cougar Challenge writers. I'm still actually writing the story but hope to have it finished by the middle of next month. I hope I hope.

Okay. Going to link you so i can come visit. How's that?

    ReplyDelete
  37. XOXOXOX

LOL! I'm not a great singer but I'll happily join cos I lurve campfires! Makes me feel all warm and tingly on the inside :)

I don't know how (or where) you pulled this off, but yeah, I do love it!

    ReplyDelete
  38. @Regina Carlysle: That's great! When you finish it next month, than how long do we have to wait before it's released?
Good luck with the deadline :)

That sounds wonderful! Looking forward to your visits! :D

  39. Hey Janna,

I'm another major Mia fan. She's honestly one of the sweetest people you'll ever meet - also she's hilariously funny - my favorite combo. :D

If you get a chance, read her Claimed by Darkness! It's fantastic! As is her new one that's coming out in March - I'm lucky enough to get to see her stuff in advance. :D

This is an awesome blog, btw. And can I just say, I love all the videos in the sidebar? Although, I must admit to being partial to the Supernatural ones. Oh, how I love me some Dean Winchester... :D

    ReplyDelete
  40. Well, reader and writer loops mostly.

    ReplyDelete
  42. @Bronwyn Green: Yeah, I have a soft spot for funny and sweet too :) My favorite ingredients in romances as well, besides hot of course!

*scribbling down* Claimed by Darkness... ow, I'm so jealous that you get to see her stories in advance! But I guess she gets to see yours in advance too ;)

    *blushing* Thanks!
Don't tell anyone, but I have a little crush on Dean *sigh* Good thing he's fictional, LOL!
I hope to see you around here more often, feel welcome!

  43. Hello Janna,

Mia posted about your blog. It looks wonderful. I will be stoping by every once in a while.

I am a reader plain and simple.

In my experience 79% of all authors are wonderful normal people who love to hear from their fans. The other 21% are just a little too self involved or don't know how to hanlde being an author. I avoid them like the plague.

I must admit that I have been blessed to become friends with about 50% of the authors that I read and that they spoil me with notes, messages, and love. When I had a major misshap over a year ago and lost about 75% of my books, those authors generously gave me copies of the books that the publishers would not allow me to redownload. Like I said, I am spoiled.

I admit that has made a massively loyal fan out of me, and touched my heart deeply, I would be reading those authors anyway. They just write so very well.

If you ever want to chat, I too am in Carol Lynne's yahoo group.

    ReplyDelete
  44. It's like magic indeed! I had no idea, cos I never became a member of Yahoo. Getting on Twitter was enough excitement for me ;)

    Huh, chicken? Where? :)

    ReplyDelete
  45. @ Janna - shhhhh...don't tell, but I had Dean in mind as one of the heroes for my last book. ;)

She does get to see mine in advance. It's a nice system we have worked out - lol!

And thank you - I do feel welcome! This is a wonderful environment you have going on here. Hope you don't mind, but I put a link on my blog. :)

    ReplyDelete
  46. I really hope that last comment didn't post-my keyboard did something funky to it! Anyway, don't you love it when these things like this happen? :) I'm going to have to check out her books.

    ReplyDelete
  47. @Suselien: Welcome to my blog! I'm looking forward to you stopping by every once in a while :)

You've had some really wonderful experiences with authors! It's just amazing what they did for you...
I must say that I find 21% disturbingly high though. It's a pretty excact number btw LOL

'I would be reading those authors anyway.'

Yeah, I'm with you on that! Definitely! :D

Thanks for the invite... maybe I will check this Yahoo thing out... one day ;)

    ReplyDelete
  48. The irony is, I had a huge fan-crush on Bronwyn when I was a baby writer. She'd write me and I'd think, who the hell is this and why is she so nice to me when I don't even know her. Then I'd gush all over her pen name email. We laugh about it now, but Bron is the other half of my soul... in a totally platonic way.

I love her work! Mystical, sexy, mysterious and dark, sensual, seductive and heart touching with a sizzle. May she never revoke my beta rights!!!

    ReplyDelete
  49. @Bronwyn Green: O, you gotta tell which one of your last books! I must read it, definitely! :) Is it released yet?

Aw, thanks! Of course I don't mind a link :) I've gotta update my author links too...

    ReplyDelete
  50. Janna, I'll hold your hand into the yahoo room. C'mon, babe, you can do it! Free excerpts and inside info on contests, sales, plus socialization with authors and other readers.

    *tempt* *tempt* *tempt*

I'm hiring someone to update my website and make it cohesive with my blog or vice versa, but you'll SOOOO be linked when I do. Love your blog and all the fun things on it. Love your detailed reviews too. I plan to spend a few hours and make up a TBR pile from it. Thank you!!

    ReplyDelete
  51. @A Buckeye Girl Reads: I most definitely do love this! :) Yeah, go check ;)

    ReplyDelete
  52. OMG Mia, that's touching...the other half of your soul... I'm really curious about her work now :)

*grin* you're good at tempting... I'm so shy, but when you hold my hand into the yahoo room... ;)
But wait, is it as time consuming as Twitter and Goodreads? Cos I do have a daytime job and a hubby, you know ;)
Okay I'm gonna get a little peek...

*blush* thanks for the blog love! I'm fairly new at it though :)

    ReplyDelete
  53. Hey Janna,

I love your blog. I can see myself visiting often, if only to sit and gaze at the wonderful images.

I can't say enough nice things about my fellow authors at RP. I just finished Mia's "She's Got Balls." It was fabulous. And I love Bron with all my heart. She's the best and her writing is second to none.

It sounds like you've got quite a great following. I think it's fabulous you've taken the time to say such great things about the authors you enjoy reading. It's inspiring. Being new, it's nice to think your effort isn't wasted.

Wishing you a great New Year.
    hugs,
    Kris Norris

p.s. Am I supposed to say Mia sent me, lol. Thanks Mia, for allowing us to share in this lovely experience.

  58. Janna- I'm a huge Mia Watts fan! Claimed by Darkness blew me away. I sent her my first ever fan email. I'm also an author. A while back, I was suffering a huge crisis of confidence. Mia took the time to email and talk me out of giving up on my dream. I now proudly call her a cherished friend.

  63. Just adding my 2 cents...I'm new to the Mia Watts Fan Club (haven't read any of her stuff yet, but they're on my TBB list!) and the majority of the authors I've met are very kind and encouraging. I've only met a handful who didn't read The Sisterhood of Published Authors and How To Deal With Negative Reader Comments:)

Believe me, Janna, you've stumbled upon the creme de la creme of authors who take the time to be encouraging to their fans or fellow authors. And I am also going to add you to my blogroll, sweetie!

  64. Mia Watts is an awesome author. My significant other and I had the chance to talk with her and she even did an online interview for the online radio station that we used to work for. Mia has always been sweet and friendly. Some of the other authors that I have met through my significant other are Carol Lynne who has written alot of books that involve different types of people from Cowboys (in the present time), to Shapeshifters, if you like those kinds of books you should check her out. Also another author that is out there is Brynn Paulin who like Carol writes different genres in her books, but she has an awesome series out that deals with Dragons. And then there is JP Bowie who has written a series based on Vampires(excellent books by the way). There is also AJ Llewellyn who writes Vampire novels as well as novels based on Hawaii. All of the authors I mentioned are worth checking out and reading especially if you loved Mia's books.

  65. @everyone.

Holy shit, you guys. I have to keep looking behind me to see if there's some other Mia standing there. Or like maybe I died and you're all at my funeral. Or This is YOUR LIFE, Mia Watts!!! LOL.

God, I love you guys. I posted the email to get you over here and see this awesometastic blog and her supportive readers and I'm gettin' love.
It's all so warm and fuzzy. Sending you alllllllll a huge non-A-Frame hug of wonder. Also not a kinky hug, you know, just a HUG hug and shit. :) 'Cause I lurve you all. Now I'm being sappy and am going to run away and try to find my snark.

*grin* Twas fun and has lots of Liam pictures on it. slurp.

@Drkcrw Hey babe! You promised me a threesome.

@Tessie. I love you, woman. You know that right? Folks I met this lady at a conference and she is the VERY first person to tell me she was a fan. I still blush when I remember the look on her face as Bronwyn introduced us. :D Besides which, Tessie keeps me in stitches. Talk about surprising humor! Geez, they oughta market you... beyond, you know, books.

@Twinkletoes, thank you so much for the compliment! I agree that CJ is a love.

I'm seeing so many authors I'm going to have to check out. Oh, my TBR pile is teetering already, it's going to collapse now! LOL.

  73. @Mia: I loved the interview with Brynn! You cracked me up, hon! You're too funny! Oh, and those cookies were really yummy! I'm looking forward to Liam's story (although it has nothing to do with Liam, nor has his name in it... ;))!
