Happy Gay Friday & Backblurbs in ebooks

It’s been hot the past few days here in the Netherlands and we had some bad thunderstorms in the evenings. And horror of all horrors, we lost our internet connection during one of those. I nearly had a panic attack, lol! Because the bad thing is that you don’t know how long the internet loss will go on until it’s finally over.

That night I realized how much I’ve come to depend on being able to look something up on the internet. Since I wasn’t able to hop some blogs or get on twitter, tumblr or pinterest anyway, I decided to read for a while. But I happened to be inbetween books.

Hop Against Homophobia: Giveaway & The Netherlands & A M/M Recommendation

Today is the International Day Against Homophobia and to celebrate this day hundreds of writers, readers, bloggers and reviewers are participating in a Hop Against Homophobia, which is organized by authors Erica Pike, K-lee Klein and Norma Nielsen. The purpose of this hop is to spread the message of homophobic discrimination. We all do that in our own way and we all have a little giveaway for those who leave a comment on our posts (check out the site for the links to all the other blogs).

As many of you might know, I’m from the Netherlands. I’m not sure how well known it is how progressive Dutch politics and Dutch legislation are when it comes to fighting homophobia. So, I'd like to share a few facts regarding Equal Treatment and gay marriage in the Netherlands. Don't worry, I'll keep it short. ;)

Happy Gay Friday & Hop Against Homophobia

I spent a great afternoon chatting with Leontine about books and blog stuff at my kitchen table. She brought home-baked brownies with strawberries and whipped cream, which were a fabulous treat for our taste buds. Yum!

I’m all satisfied and lazy now and about ready to go take a shower and curl up in bed with my current read: Cinder by Marie Sexton. I’m enjoying it very much because it’s just the cute and lovely story I’m in the mood for atm.

But before I go do just that, I want to give you the link to the Hop Against Homophobia registration page.  You’ve probably seen this button at many sites (including mine).

This hop is about spreading awareness of homophobia and there are over 225 blogs participating already and registration is still open. All you have to do is post on the topic of homophobia on May 17th and offer a M/M-related prize (follow for more information the link).
My prize will be the winner’s choice of an M/M title from an online ebook store that let me buy a gift (like All Romance ebooks).

Hope to see you doing some hopping on the International Day Against Homophobia. :)

Happy Gay Friday everyone!

Happy Gay Friday & 5 Reasons to Stay in Bed

This was one of those days that should’ve come with this warning:

And I can think of at least five reasons why I better had followed that advice:

  1. I finally could’ve finished my current book, Glitter by Diana DeRicci, that I started reading in April, and probably one or two other books
  2. Maybe my sore throat wouldn’t have gotten worse and developed into a tiny cough that can get worse if I'm not careful
  3. I heard May is Masturbation month… I don’t know why you need a (or should I say 'just one'?) special month dedicated to that but alas… I could’ve done some *cough* research on it
  4. I could’ve plotted a clever subject for today’s blogpost in all peace and quietness, instead of this ‘5 Reasons to Stay in Bed’ silliness
  5. I could’ve caught up on some much needed sleep. Apparently lack of sleep makes fat! I’m not kidding, read about it yourself. See?

Anyway, there’s always one highlight: Friday means browsing my Happy Gay Folder. So, now I can go to bed contently. :)

Happy Gay Friday!

Series Spotlighted: Talker by Amy Lane

Brian and Tate. Sigh. They are such a special couple. No matter what they had to suffer through to be together they endured it. It’s a couple that has many, many fans according to what I saw on Goodreads. The three books in this series (so far?) are rated plenty of times and the average is still around 4 stars and higher.

I’ve read the three books far apart from each other, the first one, Talker, in September 2010, the second one, Talkers Redemption, in June 2011 and the last one, Talker’s Graduation, only recently, in April 2012. I’ve written a review about the first book (you can find it here) but never wrote about the second book, or third, before. It’s always a pleasure to revisit this young couple, because of the author’s skillful way of writing emotional and heart wrenching scenes. I always need to prepare myself a little bit before jumping into one of her books, and to make sure that I have tissues at hand. Brian and Tate are scarred and damaged, even before they become a couple, and go through a lot of tragic and dramatic events together as well. Each heartbreaking episode in their lives makes their love stronger and more secure though. That’s a great part of what I love about these books, the intense romance. One other thing that I love is how music plays a role in the heroes’ lives.
