I’m lazy, but it’s Happy Gay Friday!

Let me tell you, vacation time makes you lazy! Well, at least me, lol! Looking back at my last week of vacationing I can’t honestly mention one useful thing I’ve done, except maybe going to the hairdresser (which cost me a whole afternoon btw!). It might have been useful because of this party we're going to this Saturday, and now my hair looks pretty again after the mess the beach, sun and wind had made of it. But I’m telling you, the two colors that adorn my hair now are so not worth the long afternoon wasted! To be honest I pretty much hate going to the hairdresser. Am I weird? Or am I not the only one?

Good thing about being lazy is that it’s so easy to surrender to reading. Which I happily did! I haven’t even spent much time behind the computer, apart from buying me some more books (as if I needed those ;)). So if you wondered where I was… picture me sprawled all over the couch, the bed or the lazy chair with my ereader in hand! Pretty picture, huh? ;)

Well, I’m just seizing the day while I still can, because next week all hell breaks loose again when the EDJ starts again. And because it’s the start of a new season full of new activities I’ll be out of the office a lot for the whole month of September, visiting the volunteers and their activities all over the country. By the end of September I can’t stand traveling by train any longer, lol!

Back to books! I still have some catching up to do regarding reviewing the books I’ve read while we were away. One of my intentions was to read/finish a good deal of the series that are gracing my ereader. Right! Well-counted I finished one, just one (!), whole series. And this was only a series of 4 novellas too. I didn’t even manage to read a few more books from other series either. So, one can safely say that I majorly failed on the good intentions, lol.
But, there’s always a but, this series that I did manage to read, was very enjoyable. I’ve read all four novellas in one day. It’s the Only Forever series by Shawn Lane. I’m using the handy Goodreads app again to share my very short thoughts on them with you. You can click the book titles for the synopsis on Goodreads.

Only In His Dreams (Only Forever #1)Only In His Dreams by Shawn Lane

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

This was an okay read but my least favorite of the Only Forever series. It’s Travis and Darrell’s book which is a romance-at-work story that I found a bit vanilla in the smexing department. Theirs is an interracial relationship with no angst, it’s nice and light, but without a proper HEA or HFN ending because there’s no exchange of the ‘I love you’s if I remember correctly. It’s a good set-up for the rest of the series in which we see the other characters again – getting their own romantic love story.

Only For Him (Only Forever, #2)Only For Him by Shawn Lane

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This is Barnaby and Nathan’s story, who both work at the same law firm as Travis and Darrell from book one, Only in His Dreams. They make a very cute couple. I loved the bouncy Barnaby, who knows what he wants. I had the urge to smack Nathan a few times, but his insecurities made for good heart-wrenching moments and these were actually quite adorable as was he in all his geekiness. They seem an odd couple at first sight but in the end I believed that they were a perfect match all together.

Only His Heart (Only Forever #3)Only His Heart by Shawn Lane

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This third book in the Only Forever series is not taking place at the law firm, like the first two books. Matt and Calvin are working at a hospital, but there’s a connection to the other books, as Calvin is the older brother of Barnaby from book #2. Both brothers stole my heart, with their difficult past and resulting different personalities. This third book is my favorite of the series because of the emotional depth of this story. Here the heartache is caused by a misunderstanding (no smacking urges here, like in book #2). Both Matt and Calvin are loveable protags.

His One And Only (Only Forever, #4)His One And Only by Shawn Lane

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

In the last book of this series we’re back at the law firm from the first two books. The third lawyer and partner in the firm, Mark, is finding his love interest in Drew, a friend of Barnaby. Their story was quite enjoyable as well, thanks to the likeable MC’s. They’re a bit of an odd couple too, first only meeting for coffee but gradually becoming more than just friends, but they’re very sweet together. And let’s not forget to mention hot! I think this is also a nice conclusion to the series with a cruise at the end where all the love couples from the previous books meet again, in a perhaps wee bit short wrap-up.

That was it for today! I'm going back to being lazy! ;)

Happy Friday everyone!

  2. Sounds like my perfect vacation week, other than the hairdresser. :) I hate going, even tho it takes less than an hour.

  3. Happy Friday! And yes, the hairdresser never does it just right anyway, and I have to go home and fix it.

  5. Hi, Janna! You're definitely not the only one who dislikes going to the hairdresser. For years, I kept ending up with hairdressers who wanted to talk about politics the whole time they were cutting my hair. Talk about a captive audience! It was so annoying. When they weren't doing that, they were trying to put "product" on my hair and get me to buy some bottles of it to take home with me! Now I have a great hairdresser who doesn't put anything on my hair and who likes to talk about dogs (I'm totally fine with this).

I like how you reviewed Shawn Lane's entire series here in the same post! I should be so organized. :)

  6. Sounds like a perfect week. No work and lounging and reading. Well, except for going to the hairdresser. I leave it as long as I possibly can between appointments. It's one of my least favorite activities. :)

Loved the pic and the reviews.

    Happy Friday!

  7. @Cecile: I can do that. No problem! :) The cabana boy is an excellent idea, lol!

@Chris: Yep, it doesn't get more perfect than this, I agree! :)

@Sweets: Exactly, thank goodness I have long(ish) hair so there's not much that can go wrong! :)

@Heather: Especially with your lack of sleep lately it might not be a bad idea to have some more vacation, hon! :) It actually never is a bad idea, lol!

@Val: I know what you mean, Val. This time I was blessed with a non-chatty hairdresser, although her colleague talked for two... I can't imagine them talking about politics at all, they are so darn young, I doubt they even go voting yet, lol. It's subjects like their boyfriends and celeb-gossip that are more their thing. ;)
I usually am not that organized either, I think it's the first time ever that I've read all the books in a series in a row. But thanks. :)

  8. @Lily: I don't feel alone anymore in my dislike for the hairdresser! :) I'm the same, waiting as long as possible. That's probably why I have long hair (and because hubby likes it that way of course ;)).
Happy Friday to you too, hon!

  9. *raises hand* I put off going to the hairdresser for as long as possible. I'll even do a couple weeks of wearing it up in a ponytail just to avoid going (...which is where I'm at right now.).

And with those 2 hotties at the top of your post, it's definitely a Happy Gay Friday ;)

  10. I'm not big on getting my hair done either and I wait so long that I can never get an appointment. My hair needs cut last week, it's way past due but I kept forgetting to phone and now I can't get in after 5:00 until the 9th. What? I can't ake off 3 hours from work just to get a hair cut. Sigh. We'll see if I can wait that long or if I give up and go to someone else.

I enjoyed those books in the series as well.

  11. It sounds like you had a fitting ending to your vacay Janna. Lounging about, reading, a bit of pc time and buying books <- which is always good to do, CC might not like it as much but hey, do we EVER listen to the CC?

I had a regular hairdresser, who groomed my curls ever since I was fourteen, she left me *cries* 20 years later and I'm at a loss. I haven't found a replacement yet and while the other ladies at the salon know me and on occassion "did me" no one comes close to tame my head of hair *sigh* I used to love going to Margaret but now I put it off to the last moment because it never truly gets cut they way that makes me happy.

Can you tell I'm still traumitized by Margaret leaving me?

Anyhoo, have a fabulous last vacay weekend hon!!

  12. @Ava: Grin, I do the ponytail trick too! Glad you like the hotties. :)

@Tam: *gasp* The ninth?! That's two weeks from now! Maybe you should try to grow your hair long too. You're probably half way there anyway by the 9th. ;)

@Leontine: Lol, I can tell you're still traumatized, yes! Poor girl! But you were actually lucky in the first place to have Margaret for 20 years! I've never been that lucky, but that probably has something to do with my urge to move all the time ;)
And yeah, the CC is moaning and groaning a bit right now, but I just think of it as male and it's not that bad anymore *g*

  13. Going to the hairdresser stresses me out. I am never satisfied with the results. I just cannot have the hair that I want. *sigh*

    Have a great weekend!

  14. I'm so glad you weren't too lazy to forget to post Happy Gay Friday!! Thank you sweetie!

I have to admit I LOVE going to the hair salon. I get 2 hours away from my kids. I read my book in peace. And if I go in the evening - I have a glass of wine! It's a heavenly time! But I only go every 3-4 months! I'm contemplating a major hair change... I'll keep you posted!

  15. @Eyre: I think a lot of women have that same problem and know exactly what you mean. :) Have a great weekend too!

@Twimom: Grin, nevah! ;) My pleasure!
The glas of wine sounds good!
Uhoh, you're not going to cut all your gorgeous red curls off, are you Jen? Please yes, keep me posted! :)

Wow you read a lot of Shawn Lane. I'm not sure I've read any of those books. I'll have to check them out - they sound good.
