Happy Gay Friday & Josh Lanyon's Adrien English Mysteries

TGIF! I'm ready for the weekend :) Although my work laptop still isn't reinstalled proparly after the virus hit it, I'm beginning to feel less stressed! I don't care anymore that the network guys are messing up with getting it operating again (okay, still a little bit), because I've rediscovered my home computer which is a desktop but runs way faster than my laptop did. It also is in the bedroom, so no more late nights surfing the internet and shopping for ebooks after hubby went to bed, which in a weird manner gives me more time to blog and hop and read. Limiting the time frame somehow helps to become more efficient ;) And the going to bed by 1 am (instead of 3 am) makes that I read in bed more.

And I'm also becoming less stressed because I started this very well written Adrien English series by Josh Lanyon and that's really making me relaxed and happy...
I've finished the first book, Fatal Shadows, and the second, A Dangerous Thing, almost. I hear everyone who has read all of the five books of this series say that they loved the first book, the second one not so much, but the third, fourth and last book were really, really great. So far I enjoyed the first book pretty much (4 stars), although I missed the romance in that one. But I must say that it didn't bother me at all while I was reading it because it's so freakin' well written. You just want to keep going and before you know it, you've come to the last page. This has a lot to do with Adrien's voice, his dry tone that's full of humor and self-mockery is very appealing and prompted quite a few laughs.

That hasn't changed in the second book and finally we get some bed room action and a hint of romance as well. I was starting to freak out a little after reading more than half of the book and Adrien and Jake still hadn't so much as kissed! But now they have kissed and even had their first rather awkward but great love scene. I'm prepared for the worst though, because I know some girlzz *cough*Kris*cough* call Jake the-asshole-that-shall-not-be-named because of the things he's going to do... I can imagine what those things are, him being the gay cop that's so deep in the closet he can't even find himself (quoted freely from Adrien).

Well, I'll see were this thing with Adrien and Jake is going and why some of you don't like book 2 so much... only another 30 pages to go...

  1. I must be strange then, cos I actually like the 2nd book more than the 1st. I think it's because the romance is stronger in the 2nd book, even if the mystery is weaker. I also like the idea of the two men being alone with each other for a few days and being able to work through some of the barriers to their relationship during that time.

Book 3 is where the lines are drawn and you have to pick your side - the 'for' Jake or the 'against' Jake :).

  2. Hi Jen :)
I'm leaning towards that opinion too, so far I like the second book a little bit more for the reasons you mentioned! But maybe it's changing with the last 30 pages ;)
Ah, so book 3 is the crucial book... I think I have to start reading it right after I finish book 2, I can't wait to find out.

  3. Lovely picture!

I have all 5 books on my Reader but so far haven't started them. They do sound good though.

  6. They are so good, aren't they? I can't believe how much time I spent thinking about those books while I wasn't reading them - mostly worrying about Adrien's physical and emotional health and safety.

  7. Hey Lily & Tam!
I haven't bought book 5 yet, but I definitely will :) I think you will both like this series (at least as far as I can tell based on the first books ;))

Glad you liked the pic :)

  8. @Blodeuedd: Nooo, you're kidding!? There you had a chance to loose your m/m virginity and you give the book away! LOL!

  9. Yes, Chris! That's exactly what these books do to me too! And it's his voice that's sounding in my head when I'm not reading... I really like Adrien :)

  11. Hope the PC get sorted soon...

I used to have a computer cable in my bedroom - but I had to take it out... It totally encouraged me to blog and surf and chat and not read enough...

    Happy reading hon

    Enjoy the weekend...

  13. Please dont encourage me - I have deemed my bedroom a no PC zone for awhile...

I need to get some reading done in the evenings...

My night table looks like a shelf in Borders...

  14. @Marissa: Hi sweetie, I hope everything is going well with you! Nice of you to stop by. Josh Lanyon is worth a little 'research', these books are quite enjoyable especially if you like m/m romance ;)
Have a wonderful weekend *big hugs*!

  15. I agree with Chris, EH! Wireless and the laptop make my life so much more comfortable. For starters I can take it to the couch, a lazy chair or to bed, instead of getting a flat ass from this chair in front of my desk top pc ;)
But you're right that it can get in the way of reading. Still I like my laptop back so I can choose...

  16. I think I liked book 2 the least because while the romance was more the focus, I didn't like the mystery plot. I felt like it kept trying to take over and push the romance out of the way. I can't wait for you to get through 3, 4, and 5! Jake is totally an awesome but totally redeems himself. *sigh*

  17. That is such a sweet pic!! And yes, when pc gives you troubles that leaves more time for real life things like reading. And Josh Lanyon, still need to buy book one...or did I already do that??? HHHmmm, I lost track of what I've got waiting on my e-reader *pppfff* But what is new...my bookcases are actually making books vanish *eek* Can't find them anywhere!

And quote: Jake the-asshole-that-shall-not-be-named, yes, I actually heard of him too :) Have a great saturday hon!!!

  18. @Kindle Vixen: I've finished the 2nd book now and I agree with you that the mystery was, well, okay, not very spectacular. But I was so glad Adrien and Jake finally kissed and I liked it that the relation started building after 1.5 books with no romance ;) So I liked book 2 a little bit more than the first! And I can't wait for what's going to happen in the next three books, so it won't take me long before I start reading them :)

  19. @Leontine: Lol, you and your disappearing books ;) You know, I keep track of my bought but unread books at Goodreads (that's my 'to-read' shelf). It's really handy :)

    Yep, Jake is quite infamous!

  20. @Janna - I need a different system! When I started out reading books I instantly recognized the covers and placed them in order of preference but now I have so many series on the shelves that I'm losing track and the single titles get lost. So now i need to go in alphabetical order but with like, 450-500 books that is quite the day job and i hate alphabetizing :( I think I will be forced when my dad makes me floor to ceiling bookcases #2 this spring...

  21. That's the great thing about GoodReads, it places my books in alphabetical order for me ;) Plus it has the search option...
