I sweet HGF picture this week, because... what a week! *sigh*
With a post title like that you probably think I’m referring to the latest brouhaha in our little part of the internet world, but I’m not. I don’t feel the slightest inclination to give you my 2 cents about the stoptheGRbullies debacle that hit my rss reader and twitter timeline this week, because I hate how the discussions about issues like this always get so completely and utterly simplified, no matter how nuanced or well-worded some comments are, there’s always someone who finds a way to simplify such comments and the complete discussion/issue at hand. And like it or not, most of the times these issues aren’t that black and white at all. So, I try to stay away from them as far as I can.
No, I was referring to something in real life that happened this week with my little sister. She called me earlier this week in the wee hours of the day, crying her heart out because her relationship had ended. Her boyfriend of many years had cheated on her and she just found out that it had been going on for the last couple of years. She went through a few stages of grief this week during our many hours on the phone. First there was denial, quickly followed by anger, which was good because in that stage she could clearly voice for herself all the reasons why she had to end this relationship. Then came the bargaining, with a lot of ‘maybe if he…’ remarks. I think she skipped the depression stage (but perhaps that’s just wishful thinking on my part) and I hope she’s halfway in the acceptance stage now, she told him it was definitely over and she kicked him out of their house. Love is so cruel sometimes and it’s hard to see your little sister suffer from it this much…
On a happier note, this week arrived my little, cute piggy bank that Sharon had signed for me by Abigail Roux. It cheered me up! It’s such a lovely gift inspired by the cover of Divide & Conquer and it just shows what a wonderful person Sharon is, sending this piggy all the way to Europe for me. Thanks again, Sharon!
Happy Gay Friday!
