Hi you all, I survived my Alaska vacation, despite being disconnected from the internet most of the time, a short case of motion sickness and a (not very) close encounter with a brown bear who’d been shot at a day prior of our visit to his territory. *g*
Ah well, to be honest, we had a wonderful time! :)
Most impressive was the up close and personal with the Hubbard Glacier. Our ship navigated pretty close to the 6 miles wide cliff face and we witnessed how it calved off icebergs the size of a 10-story building (so we were told). Well, it’s a darn imposing natural phenomenon for sure, especially the sound it produces – like a stretched-out and very loud thunder.
We’ve seen some beautiful other places too, here’s just a small selection of everything we saw:
Isn't it beautiful?

ReplyDeleteDid you take those pictures? You're very talented!
@Leontine: Thanks, sweets! Me too. :)
ReplyDelete@Chris: Thank you, Chris! :D
@Val: Yeah, and not just whales but seals and dolphins too. It also happened to be feeding season for the whales, so we saw lots of them. Around 30 I think. :)
@Tam: Definitely the coolest! :) And one of them did a full body breach which was awesome (haven't caught that on camera of course...).
I hope you and your daughter can make it to Alaska one day. :D
@Lily: Thanks, Lily and you're welcome. =)
@Twimom: Thanks, Jen! :) We're still in our old home for the next 13 days, busy packing. Can't wait to finally move. ;D
@Patti: Thanks, hon. =) Yep, I did take them... thank you *blush*
Wow, I love them! I really wanna go there too.
ReplyDeleteAnd ohhh, we got those pink flowers too :)
Hi B! I'm glad you appreciate them. :)
ReplyDeleteI think the pink flowers were called fire weed by the Alaskans. :D
Gorgeous! Sorry about the poor bear!
ReplyDeleteHey Julia! Yeah, well, but the 'poor bear' ate a dog and came after a ranger before that ranger took a shot at the bear... ;)
ReplyDeleteWoa looks awesome! Can I go now too?
ReplyDelete@Lis: Sure, go ahead. :) But you know that Australia is the other way, right? ;D
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely :)
