Happy Gay Friday & Some Light
I’m scratching my head, thinking hard, looking heavenward, searching for words, looking for explanations – well, I think you get the point – in an attempt to describe how I feel. I have this indeterminate feeling of sadness. But I have nothing to be sad about, how sad is that, huh? All I want to do is play loud music, browse through my folders of yummy cookies and read. Maybe it’s the weather, which is rather stormy, wet and dark. Maybe it’s my tired body and slightly full head, remainders of having to deal with some fatiguing issues at work. Maybe it’s because I’m a bit behind with writing reviews and haven’t blogged much this week. Or maybe it’s just that time of the month. I dunno…
This is the (beautiful but sad) song I'm playing atm at maximum volume:
I do know that it’s time to look at the words that I painted on my bedroom wall: ‘Turn your face towards the sun and shadows will fall behind you’.
While the real sun is lacking today I’m using blogging as a substitute for some light. And I already feel it’s working. :)
*And it also helps that the next song in my playlist is Happiness by The Fray*
I haven’t even blogged about last Friday's IRL meeting with Leontine and Lis! The three of us met in Utrecht, Lis’s hometown, where we went to a cozy place for a high tea. And it was awesome, we started chatting and we never stopped until we had to catch our train home again. Leontine wrote about it on her blog, so if you’re curious what we talked about go read her wonderful blog post here.
One of the things that sneaked into our conversation was the idea of reading all three the same book on a regular basis and do a sort of joint review for which we invite anyone who wants to join in. We decided on an m/m book for our first ‘reading group’ try out: Clare London’s 72 Hours.
More about this idea later.
Speaking of ideas. I’m thinking about changing my blog’s name into something more general. A short brainstorm made me come up with ‘Loves and Joys’ combined with my name or even with ‘Reviews’ although that may be a bit too pretentious for my blog *g*. I’m not sure yet about the change, I have to think through what the consequences will be… Feel free to tell me what you think of this idea. :)
There’s one other thing I want to share with you. I look forward to next week when I have the lovely author Sloan Parker as a guest on the blog! She’ll tell something about her upcoming release Breathe, her second novel (some of you might remember how much I loved her debut, More, if not you can read my High 5, Low 5 review here).
And the good news is: Sloan is going to give away an ecopy of Breathe to one of you! The contest will run from November 11 – 16!
*I'm finishing this post while listening to Hard Enough by Brandon Flowers*
Hope you all have a Happy Friday!

I was in a funk in September. Ugh. I hate that feeling. Mojo that you find a lighter happeier place soon.
ReplyDeleteGlad you had a fun time with the other bloggers. I think your idea of a joint review or what each one liked or didn't and how it differed is a cool idea.
Have a great weekend and hope you get some sun soon.
Hi, Janna! I hope you're feeling better soon. I'll bet it's due to the weather. And sometimes you just need a change, which it sounds like you're coming up with some great new changes for the blog. I love that you painted that one inspirational saying on your bedroom wall! :)
ReplyDeleteIf I could I would come over with a pint of Ben And Jerry's (acute medicine for gloomy moods) - some fine chocolate and popcorn so we could chat, see a movie and we could talk some cookies and smut. I hope this weekend will lift your spirit a bit and the hour time change, the dark weather *blegh* doesn't work for you either I think!
ReplyDeleteAnd you know hon, I'm a phone call away (not on GSM but on landline phone)
(hugs) I hate those autumn blues. The dreary weather and chilly days = blah! I hope you feel more yourself soon.
ReplyDeleteI'm so looking forward to Sloan Parker's new release! Loved More.
So fun that you all met :D
ReplyDeleteYou are not the only one, I felt like that at the beginning of the week too, poor bf, I was horrid!
Hmmm well maybe we should meet again, that will cheer you right up! Or you can eat some of my homemade cookies :D
ReplyDeleteThough everyone has those moments. Especially in fall and combined with being busy and having a lot on your mind. You should make some time for yourself, like a day or a night and just do what you want to!
@Tam: Thanks Tam. Having a funk sucks, but luckily it always ends. :) Glad you like the joint review idea. I hope you'll come over to share your opinion too!
ReplyDelete@Val: Yep, new ideas for changes do help! And great books. :D
Of course the saying is painted in Dutch on my wall (--> 'Draai je gezicht naar de zon en schaduwen zullen achter je vallen'). It's one of 3 sayings I've painted on there.
@Leontine: Oh yes, that would be perfect, a friend, booktalk, chocolate and ice! We shouldn't live that far apart, I want you next door! :)
Luckily you're only one phone call away, I'll think about that next time! Even better, I'll call you when I'm in a happy mood as well. *hugs*
@Ava: Thanks Ava! Fortunately these moods are never bothering me very long.
Yes, I remember reading your review of More and recognizing a lot of things you said about it! I've been jonesing for Breathe ever since I knew about it! :)
@Blodeuedd: It must be in the air! Poor bf. :)
@Lis: Yes, yes, yes! Excellent idea! :) When? I'm craving for your cookies now, lol!
Okay, I'll settle for some time for myself than. ;)
Oooooo goodie we get another Sloan Parker book! I just re-read More the other day and had forgotten how in hearts I was with it.
ReplyDeleteHon, I hope things start looking brighter soon. I'll be keeping you in my prayers. *hugs*
ReplyDeleteHere's hoping you feel cheerier soon. I hate those times of disinclination... *hug*
ReplyDeleteHope things start to look up for you soon! *hugs*
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear you are feeling down and hope you're feeling...perkier soon. Sometimes I think we're just meant to have some down days...curl up with a good book and just...recharge.
ReplyDeleteOh, just read Inland Empire (James Buchanan). Could I love James & Nicky more?
@KC: *jumps up and down* Yes, yes! It's almost there. :)
ReplyDelete@Eyre: Thanks hon, it's helping already! :)
@Chris: Now that you're back all will be alright again! ;D
@Lily: Thankies, they already do, Lily. *hug*
@orannia: Thank you dear. :D I think you're right and that's just what I did!
Yay, for reading and loving Inland Empire. I'm in love with these guys too!!
*hugs* I hate that I don't know why I'm blue feeling!
ReplyDeleteI too was/am contemplating changing my blog name to something that said "BOOK REVIEWS" so people would understand from the title... but then I stopped trying to think about it!
@Jen: I do feel much better again, Jen. There's so much more to be happy about than sad! :)
ReplyDeleteMaybe I should stop thinking about the name (change) too. I can't decide if it's worth the hassle...
Love that Fray song. I hate when I feel sort of sad but don't really know why; hope you feel better soon. So cool you got to meet fellow bloggers. It's always fun to meet the person behind the blog :)
ReplyDelete@Patti: You know firsthand how it is to meet fellow bloggers and you're absolutely right: it is super! :)
