Happy Gay Friday: A Book-free Week & Discovering New Creativity and Apps

TGIF! And thank goodness for surviving this week. It’s been a bad week for me emotionally. Without a reason I’ve been sad and unhappy. And it wasn’t even that time of the month (no hormones in sight). I think maybe going back to work didn’t agree with me very much. Hubs started to become desperate from seeing me like this for so many days in a row, instead of my usual 30 minutes of hormonal fits. This whole week I felt so unbalanced that I couldn’t read any books either. That was not just due to the fact that it was hard to decide what book to pick after the last Ty & Zane book...

So, my love decided that I needed some distraction and he took me out shopping for a new computer last night. The old one was about to die. It was making noises as if it was ready for take off, or as if a mewling cow was hiding in the room. About a month ago we already went out to the computer store in an attempt to buy a new pc. However the one we took home with us turned out to be a DOA, as the guy behind the service desk called it later, the hard disk was defect. And it happened to be the last one of that type. So, we got our money back and went home empty handed. After that disaster we tried to ignore the problem of the old and mewling cowputer for a little while. Because we both absolutely hate shopping, even more so when it is shopping for a computer.
Last night my desperate husband took matters in his own hands, well, he took me by my hand and walked us straight to the Apple store around the corner. He decided a new computer wouldn’t do the trick of distracting me, it had to be a Mac. He knows me so well! Because yes, he totally brightened my mood. Just the thoughtfulness alone would have, but the combination did the job. Discovering and exploring the new OS of an iMac made me forget all about my unhappiness. Give me something new to learn and things to find out, and I’m happy as a dog with seven d*cks (whoops, the things that slip out of my mouth when I’m excited).

I even started to read again this morning! Suddenly I knew it had to be an anthology that could help me over the yearning for more Ty & Zane. So, I started reading Lashings of Sauce by Josephine Myles, Alex Beecroft, Charlie Cochrane, Clare London and many others. This anthology is written to celebrate the 2012 UK Meet, an occasion for GLBTQ supporters to get together in a relaxed setting to celebrate and chat about the fiction community they love. Funds from the sale of this anthology will go towards future UK Meets, to which all are welcome. The UK Meet 2012 will take place in Brighton on Saturday September 15. And Rarely Dusty’s own Lis will attend this year for the first time. Whoohee! Lis also agreed to write about her experience at the UK Meet after the event. That’s one blog post I’ll look forward to, that’s for sure! :)

Btw did you notice this week’s HGF illustration above? I tapped into my own creativity during our vacation time and started sketching on my iPad. I use different apps for that, but I find Sketch Club to be the most easiest and user friendly for simple sketches like this. After I finished the drawing I used another app called Wordfoto to get the words in. It’s a lot of fun to do! :)

I’m looking for more apps (creativity apps or otherwise) for both the iPad and iMac, so if you have a few tips I’m open to hearing them!

Well, let’s see now if I can get this post, including the pictures, uploaded with this iMac... *keeps fingers crossed that I can find the images*

Happy Gay Friday everyone!

  3. Wow, what a great husband you have. Does he have any single brothers? :-)

I'm looking forward to Brighton and seeing Lis again and everyone there. It's going to be fun. I can't believe it's almost here already. Hope you enjoy the anthology. I really must read all the stories before I go so I can speak intelligently with the authors. Let me add that to my list. :-)

    1. Yeah, he is a keeper, for sure! :) And yeah, he actually has a single (older) brother. Want me to set you up? ;D

I'm looking forward to hearing al about Brighton from you! Lol, have fun with reading all the stories (minus one). Although I'm sure you can speak intelligently with all the authors anyway, without reading the stories. After all you're one of the authors yourself. :)

    1. Computers should definitely be issue free, given the length of time we spend with them. ;P
