Backblurb:
Cut & Run Series Book 5 - Sequel to Divide & Conquer

Left alone in Baltimore after his unpredictable lover bails, Special Agent Zane Garrett takes his frustration out on everything in his path until he is ordered to Chicago to back up an undercover operative. When he gets there, though, he finds himself face to face with his wayward partner, Special Agent Ty Grady. They have to deal with the uncertainty lingering between them while they work to retrieve their intended mark, a retired hit man and CIA wet-works operative named Julian Cross.

Ty, once a marine and now an FBI hotshot, has a penchant for being unpredictable, a trait Zane can vouch for. Zane is a man who once lived for his job but has come to realize his heartbreaking past doesn’t have to overshadow his future. They're partners, friends, lovers, and the go-to team for unusual cases. With Cross and his innocuous boyfriend, Cameron Jacobs, in tow, Ty and Zane must navigate the obstacles of a cross-country trek, including TSA pat-downs, blizzards, their uncooperative prisoners, CIA kill teams, a desperate lack of sleep or caffeine, and each other. Ty and Zane are determined to get Julian Cross to DC in one piece, but it’s starting to look like it might be the last thing they do.

Where to even begin on this one… sigh. It was like Abigail Roux said “Happy Birthday, Merry Christmas and I love my fans” all in one book. If you haven’t read the first 4 books, go away! You don’t want to know about this yet. If you haven’t read Armed & Dangerous make sure you read Warriors Cross first. It will add to your enjoyment of A&D and I promise you will love Julian and Cameron too.

Ty and Zane are finally being honest with each other about their feelings and their past, but Ty does the most sharing in this one. I expect Zane to reveal his skeletons in the next book. Roux knows how to write about two people in love and I mean head over heels in love. The touches, the whispers the OMG sex. This book has it all. Here are a few of my favorite lines:

Ty: “Maybe give me time to scruff you up.”
Zane: “what do you mean scruff me up?”
“I mean screw you through a wall,” Ty said, waving his hand up and down Zane.
Ty reached for Zane’s face, meeting his eyes. “I was always yours,” he said with difficulty.
Zane pressed his fingertips to Ty’s lips. “Why?”
Ty shook his head, searching for the answer. His chest tightened and breathing became difficult, but he landed on the words he needed. He met Zane’s dark eyes and realized he was feeling light-headed as he answered. “Because… you make me the kind of person I’ve always wished I was.”
Ty stood there for a moment longer, watching his lover in the garish light. If there was one thing in the world Ty was willing to give up everything for, it was sitting right there in front of him.
Cameron leaned his head back against the leather headrest and closed his eyes. This was like National Lampoon’s Vacation, but with death, property destruction, and an Irish accent.
Deuce glanced at him before turning his attention back to Zane and Julian. “Dare I ask what you’ve done to deserve protective custody?” he asked Julian.
“I deal antiques,” Julian answered in a soft voice.
Deuce nodded, looking Julian up and down. He turned his head to look at Ty speculatively. “That’s an euphemism for ‘I kill things’, isn’t it?

As if having Zane and Ty freely showing their feelings wasn’t enough awesomeness, this story also had a couple from another one of my favorite books that happens to have been written by Roux (and Urban); Julian and Cameron from Warriors Cross. It is probably bad form to talk about a different book in a review, but Warriors Cross was written by this author so it is all cool. If you dropped Ty and Zane into a blender, Julian is what you would get and that is one fine smoothie! The dynamics between Ty/Zane/Julian their bad ass attitudes along with the naïve and sweet Cameron thrown in, and you get some funny moments.

This story had a solid storyline too. Someone is trying to kill Julian before Ty and Zane can get him to safety, but things aren’t always as they seem and betrayal runs deep. We even get to see Deuce again and he has some interesting news that I hope will play into a storyline for Ty and Zane further down the line.

This book ranks right up there with the first one Cut & Run. And I don’t care what the rating rules are, this gets 6 stars!
