This sweet, funny and a little nerdy story was first offered as a free short story on a GoodReads group, but has since been taken down and revised and expanded. It’s now up for sale at Amber Allure. Something I am very happy about, even if I sometimes have reservations about free stories being published. This story was worth it, because, although short, it was a well written story.

What is about the nerdy, shy, sweet, stuttering Sam who works at a tattoo parlor and is majorly crushing on his hunk of a boss: Jeremy. Unbeknownst to Sam, his boss is a werepanther and so is Sam, even if he has yet to shift. Unknowingly he has been causing fights and it all comes to a halt when Jeremy tells Sam the truth. Sam is a werepanther and what’s more... they are mates. But they couldn’t be, right? Because Jeremy is straight. Right?

What is a nice, sweet, romantic story that is thankfully free of major, dramatic, obvious been-there-done-that conflicts. This made for a nice change of pace. For such a short story, the plot is well done, the characters are nicely introduced and well rounded. Of course, you don’t get a whole lot of insight into the characters as you get in full-length novels, but there is enough to get a good idea of who they are and to make it a good story.

What I liked most about the story are the funny instances. Even if this is not your usual cup of coffee, you just have to read it for the squirrel incident! It’s so funny and I loved Sam in all his nerdy glory.

What makes a nice change from the usual romance stories. Not only because it’s well done, you can tell from the story that the author has a Master of Arts in Writing Popular Fiction, it is original as well. It makes for a good story without the added recurring themes of abuse, kidnapping, big misunderstandings, non-con, etc.

To conclude: go get this story!

Oh and did I mention that the smexing in this story makes you melt in a puddle of goo?
