Backblurb:
Hopeless at hunting, Prince Albert has been sent into the woods by his impulsively cruel father, required to kill a stag before he can return. Luckily he has Manning, a quiet and overly competent bodyguard, to rely on. But the familiarity and evident desire growing between prince and bodyguard shame Manning into revealing a secret: the king is using Albert as bait in a political game with a neighboring power, and it’s Manning’s job to lead him into danger.
Angry and betrayed, but unwilling to endanger Manning, Albert insists that his bodyguard go through with the plan. To save Albert and win back his trust, Manning will have to disobey two sets of orders and prove he has the canniness to survive in the royal court.

Guest review by SharonS.:

Prince Albert is 20 years old and the only heir to a cruel King. He may seem to be a spoiled child and have a life of luxury, but in reality he is scared for his life, lonely and emotionally closed off because he can’t trust anyone since people must be nice to him because of his Royal position.

Manning, who is 35 years old, has lived a hard life. Running away from home and joining the army as a young boy, then becoming part of the Royal Guard. He has had to do horrible things for his king including leading the unwitting young prince into a dangerous situation for political gain.

The author was able to make me care for these two characters in a very short time. I enjoyed watching them slowly open up to each other. This story isn’t about the sex, but about two people from different worlds finding comfort and trust in each other. But don’t worry, they do have sex . I found the story satisfying and complete and it left me all warm and fuzzy.

  1. That cover caught my eye (I must have a weakness for a man with a large ... bow), but I'm not much of a fan of fantasy stories so I've passed on it to date. I might have to check it out though. One of those "if it's on sale" books perhaps for me. Nice review.

  2. m/f historical doesn't pique my interest all that much these days but this one sounds like a swift, enjoyable read ;)

  4. Not a huge fantasy fan, but, like Tam, maybe if I pick it up on sale or something...

  5. @Leontine, this is m/m and I wouldn't call it historical at all. And I wouldn't call it fantasy either. There is no world building, it is just a story of two people falling in love. Not sure what the price is...

  6. I shouldn't leave comments in a hurry *sigh* I know its m/m and when I read the cover blurb I kinda thought it was historical...which doesn't pique my interest in m/f these days.
