Backblurb:
Sent to Kuwait on his first deployment for a war that might not even happen, Nick Garcia is disappointed by how much of a letdown it’s turning out to be. It doesn’t help that he’s still nursing the same hopeless crush on his best friend, Scott, that he’s had since they met at the academy. Then Nick flies his first mission and learns that the reality of war feels much different than their training runs. When Scott’s plane is shot down during a raid, Nick discovers that comfort can come from a surprising source – and take a surprising form.

Guest review by SharonS.:

Lieutenant Nick Garcia and his best friend since childhood, Scott, are fighter pilots in the US Air Force and have just been deployed on their first mission in Iraq. Nick has been secretly in love with Scott, but realizes nothing will ever come of it. Another soldier in their company pursues Nick and gives him what he needs emotionally and physically.

There is no real beginning or end to this story. It was more of a snap shot in the life of Nick like a scene from a full story. It is from Nick’s point of view and we watch him struggle to come to terms with killing during wartime and loving someone who won’t return his feelings. The story touches on issues of war, and being gay so there is an overall sad tone, but by the end it seems Nick might find hope in the new and unknown direction his life will take him.

This is different from what I usually read, it had a realistic feel to the emotions, but no romance and the sex was just a good old fashion f**k. I did enjoy it, but I prefer more content (if that makes sense ) and closure to my stories.

  1. Sounds like a book I'll skip - military books aren't my favorites, esp without much emotional connection to them.

  2. yeah, you get the main characters feelings about what is going on around him, but that is pretty much it. Like I said, it was just a snap shot in the life of type of story.
